When you started your company, it was likely just you and a few friends in a room. Communication was easy, and you knew that you were all on the same page all the time.

As things grew and you added your first few hires, you noticed that communication struggled a bit here and there, but things seemed fine overall so you kept charging forward.

As you move towards 10 employees outside of the founding team, you start to notice that sub-groups of communication are popping up. – inside jokes, private slacks, etc. Not the worst, but also more employees start to feel left out of certain things.

As you get to 20+ employees, you start to realize that the casual check-ins that used to work for keeping everyone on track are no longer working and now there's not a great way for the team to keep everyone on the same page.

Sound familiar? I've seen this model many times with the companies I've worked with over the years.

Early communication practices and tools set the tone for the future of a company's team communication. If you are working with your team and only checking in verbally, you'll run into problems once the team expands.

It's important to establish good habits and standards early on when it comes to communication and collaboration. This includes setting up rules for how emails should be responded to, when meetings should take place, and creating regular feedback loops regarding performance. Having the right tools in place will help ensure that everyone is always connected and up-to-date, and will make sure that your team can remain productive as it grows.

Creating an environment where everyone feels heard and respected is also essential for keeping productivity high. Making sure that everyone on the team understands expectations helps with communication overall, which is key for any successful organization or company. Setting up the right habits now will ensure that you have a smooth transition into becoming a larger company while maintaining your team cohesion.

The culture and values of your team are important, but how you communicate with each other sets the foundation. If everyone is on the same page with expectations and communication protocols, collaboration can be successful even when working remotely or in different offices around the world. So don't wait – start defining the tools and habits that will shape the future of your team's collaboration today!

If you already have a team and want to talk about how to improve their communication, let's set up a call.
